Mammalian development: Axes in the egg?
نویسنده
چکیده
An enduring but erroneous belief is that the post-fertilisation period is irrelevant for axis development in mammals. Two recent studies further undermine this belief. Is information for axial developmental encoded in the egg cortex?

Fertile offspring derived from mammalian eggs lacking either animal or vegetal poles.
In all animals so far tested, removing either pole of the undivided egg prevents normal development: embryos may arrest early, lack organs, or the adults may be sterile. These experiments have shown that spatial patterning of the egg is of utmost importance for subsequent development. However, the significance of spatial patterning in mammalian eggs is still controversial. To test the importanc...
متن کاملPolarity of the mouse embryo is established at blastocyst and is not prepatterned.
Polarity formation in mammalian preimplantation embryos has long been a subject of controversy. Mammalian embryos are highly regulative, which has led to the conclusion that polarity specification does not exist until the blastocyst stage; however, some recent reports have now suggested polarity predetermination in the egg. Our recent time-lapse recordings have demonstrated that the first cleav...

Recently it has been reported, that immunoglobulin Y (IgY) can be used instead of polyclonal antibodies extracted from mammals (IgG) for the purpose of diagnosis and therapy. These antibodies are found to have better properties in terms of specificity and ease of large-scale production. In addition, IgY binds neither to mammalian complement or Fc-receptors nor does it interfere with rheumatoid ...

متن کاملOverexpression of the isolated protease domain of the Nudel protein does not affect Dorsal – Ventral polarity determination in Drosophila
_______________________________ Signature Date Overexpression of the isolated protease domain of the Nudel protein does not affect Dorsal – Ventral polarity determination in Drosophila SUMMARY Most of living organisms begin life from one-cell egg. Generally, an egg begins developments after it gets fertilized. From very early stages, however, depending on the locations in an embryo, each embryo...
